They have only one way - to use an on-ground ferry - a four wheel drive truck on which they are being put and sit all the way through the muddy passage.

Renault Laguna GT with four-wheel steering

Renault says that the GT's 'Active Drive chassis' with four-wheel steering makes the Laguna both more driveable and safer. Below 38mph, the front wheels can turn in the opposite direction to the rear wheels, meaning a tighter turning circle (10 per cent tighter, in fact) and easier manoeuvring into tight spots.
Above 38mph, the front and rear wheels can turn in the same direction, which helps to keep the tail from drifting wide on corners. Renault says the four-wheel steering improves the Laguna's road-handling without the need to stiffen the suspension, which would undermine the relaxed character of the car.

In Monte Carlo WRC-rally Sebastien Loeb was close to hit policeman at track. In Sweden it was payback time... Loeb got a speeding ticket from Swedish police!

Ford's new factory WRC driver Jari-Matti Latvala has won a full-blown WRC event in only his second attempt as a works driver.
It was a stunning win from the Finn, who beat not only his highly-rated team mate Mikko Hirvonen but also Citroen's Sebastien Loeb in some extremely icy conditions. Loeb will want to forget Rally Sweden after rolling his C4 on the fourth stage, getting a speeding ticket on a road section and eventually retiring with a broken clutch.

When Renault Sandero was presented in Brazil, it was evident that Logan, which receives the Renault badge in South America, would soon be subject to changes inspired on its hatchback version. Yes, that’s right. Although Sandero has a different appearance, it is built over the same B0 platform that is used by Logan, what makes it the hatchback option of Logan’s line, already composed by the sedan, the MCV, the Van and soon the Pick-up Truck.The reason for the change in the sedan is also obvious. Logan is one of the biggest bargains the world has seen in the car market, offering the same space available in a Toyota Corolla for a fraction of its price, but it is not considered to be a beautiful car by many. In fact, even a Renault executive in Brazil has defined it as a useful shoebox, or, as a character in the movie “Crazy People” has once said (for the old Volvo cars, but it suits the Logan), it is “boxy, but good”. Since appearance is the only thing that prevents Logan of selling even more, changing it would surely benefit Renault, worried about the brand’s still low sales in markets other than the European and ambitious about its plans to become one key player in emerging markets. Sandero seems to be the right pathway for this change. Check the front end of the car in the illustration, as well as the car in the spy pictures, heavily covered, but still visible, with Sandero’s images and try NOT to see the similarities.Although the rendering shows a notchback model, with a wiper on the rear window, we would bet on a regular sedan body, more popular in emerging (and rather conservative) markets. Besides the engines the Logan already offers in Europe, Dacia is likely to include the 1.6-liter four-cylinder flex engines the car uses in Brazil, a 8V that pushes 95 cv on ethanol and 92 cv on petrol and a 16V that delivers 112 cv on the green fuel and 107 cv on the petroleum-derived one. The 1.0 16V is not likely to be offered in Europe, though it does a very good job carrying the car in Brazilian roads.Besides the sedan version, Sandero is sure to influence a new MCV and a new small SUV that will face the Ford EcoSport, a Fiesta-based sport utility vehicle that has made a huge success in South American markets due to its appearance and low price (for a SUV). The sedan and the SUV are expected to arrive in 2009 and, as it has happened with Sandero, first in Brazil, a market that has grown 27.8% in 2007. And that promises an even better performance this year.

Hirvonen leads the championship

Mikko Hirvonen says that while he came to Sweden hoping to win the rally, he is satisfied to leave with second place and the lead of the drivers’ championship instead.
In common with Sebastien Loeb, Hirvonen had the worst of the tricky road conditions on the opening day but soon settled into a comfortable second place. After Loeb’s crash, he quickly realised it was not worth taking risks to chase Latvala and was happy to settle for the points that promoted him into the championship lead.
"Jari-Matti and I may be two young lads in the Ford team but we proved that we can still take a 1-2 finish and showed how strong the team is," said Hirvonen. "I came here to win but Jari-Matti made it clear on Friday that he was the man of the rally so I had to settle for second. My consolation is that I've never led the championship before. I'm sure I will have more battles with Jari-Matti. I was frustrated I couldn't find a rhythm on Friday but then I eased my pace because I wanted to make sure of the points. I've always said that if I can't win this year, I must finish second and that's what I did."

BMW M70/2 engine at 6000 rpm. This engine was created for the McLaren F1 supercar and also used in the Le Mans-winning BMW V12 LMR sports car.

Here's proof that Rolls-Royce will go to any lengths to please its wealthy customers.

Engineered by the firm's official coachbuilders Mutec, the luxurious limo has been stretched to 6,934mm, an incredible increase of 1,100mm. The extra length has been achieved by inserting extra panels in the centre section and increasing the wheelbase. Despite this the Mutec Phantom still features its trademark 'suicide' rear doors.

However, it's inside that owners of this special Rolls will really benefit. The rear bench has been replaced by a four indvidual seats that face each other. Each chair is separated by a centre console containg air-con controls and cool boxes for chilled drinks.

No prices have been revealed but, if you have to ask, you probably can't afford it!

Renault F1 Team presented yesterday (31.01.2008) their 2008 car : the Renault F1 R28 model.

Flavio Briatore promises a comeback after a dissapointing season in 2007. Here is what he stated :
"We have the strength in depth to overcome our disappointments, Renault has invested for the future at Enstone, especially with the new CFD Centre, which gives us the stability we need to move forward. The new car is a change in direction for the team, and we have been aggressive with the concept. When you add in Fernando's ability to lead the team on the track, it is a powerful combination. Remember, in 2007 we finished third in the championship with a bad car, that we did not develop for half of the season. For 2008, we have a good car - and a world champion driver. The situation looks promising."

FIA has confirmed : the first night race in F1 will take place in September at Singapore. Almost every session will be conducted at night during the weekend.

Friday practice will start at 4pm local time and the second 90-minute session will start at 8pm. On Saturday final practice will be at 5pm while qualifying will begin at 8pm local time, while the race on Sunday will begin at 8pm local time.

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO X Announced as WRC Course Car in Japan:

Since 2005 Mitsubishi has not been taking part as a constructors team in the World Rally Championship (WRC). And although Mitsubishi vowed that they will return in time, the return will actually be faster than most had hoped for. In the upcoming Japanese round of the FIA WRC, or just Rally Japan, the brand new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X will be testing the track as a Course Car.

Next summer Mitsubishi is expecting to be approved for Group N homologation from the Federation International de L'Automobile (FIA) which would allow a return to WRC half-way 2008 or early 2009.

On the 29th of January, Honda launched their 2008 car : the R108.
It will be interesting to see what results will Honda acheive in 2008 with Ross Brawn on bord.
What is worth noticing is that there's no sponsor advertising on the car. The names of all the 39 sponsors of the Honda Formula-1 Team are visible only on the driver's costumes and on the team trucks.
This way Honda started the 2nd year of their "Climate-change worries" campain.
Very weird to see this from a Formula-1 Team.

Here is what Ross Brawn said about the new car:

"The RA108 car is a wholly different concept to its predecessors, in terms of its aerodynamic layout and mechanical structure," said Brawn. "The design philosophy has been developed to allow greater scope for aerodynamic packaging and exploitation, particularly to facilitate the introduction of performance upgrades through the season."
